Announcement: Update to Unicode Extension for Agent (AgtEx)

Update: Unicode Extension for Agent (AgtEx) beta version 0.4.2022.300

WHAT IS NEW

Cut, copy and paste Unicode message body text in Agent.

* Copy Unicode text from a message in Agent and paste it directly
into other applications.
* Copy Unicode text from other applications and paste it directly
into a Unicode message in Agent.
* Copy and paste text between Unicode and non-Unicode messages in
Agent.
* Copy Unicode characters from your favourite character map
application and paste them directly into a Unicode message in
Agent.

FEATURES

* View plain text message bodies in full Unicode in Agent [^1].
* View HTML message bodies in full Unicode in Agent [^1][^2][^3].
* Write plain text messages in full Unicode in Agent [^1].
* Cut, copy and paste Unicode message body text in Agent.

[^1] How many Unicode characters you can see will depend on
your fonts.
[^2] Excludes properly displaying HTML &escape characters when
in full Unicode.
[^3] In the Agent 4.0 - 7.00 HTML viewer, a small percentage of
Unicode characters will not display correctly.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

Any of the following

* Agent 8.00 (only) running in Windows or WINE.
* Agent 1.7 – 7.20 running in Windows 2000 up to Windows 10.

The following systems are also supported for those who can make a
small hex edit to agent.exe

* Agent 1.7 – 7.20 running in WINE or Windows 98/Me.

DOWNLOAD

Download the ZIP file AgtEx_beta_0.4.2022.300.zip from

INSTALLATION

Installation instructions are included in the ZIP file.

AgtEx beta version 0.4.2022.300 does not have an installer program.
Installation is done by manually copying files.
If some other site claims to have an installer program, you run that
at your own risk.

I have Agent 7.10 running in Windows 11 with the Unicode Extension
running just fine. Are you saying that this update wouild not work in
my environment?

It should work. It has not been tested in Windows 11 yet.

AgtEx (0.4.2022.300) also works excellently in WIN11. :-) However, I
have Agent *8.0* here.

Just out of curiosity, why was the filename, "unrar.dll" chosen? It seems odd to me, but then
again, I understand little of the mechanics going on here.

Do I appreciate your work with Agent and us users? Oh God yes!

It must be a DLL file that Agent will automatically load when it is started.

Agent 8 automatically loads unrar.dll when it starts.
Agent 7 and earlier do not.
